How it works

What happens in an audit.

The same six steps for every package. Smaller packages cover fewer questions and platforms.

01

Build the question set

Realistic questions across four types: your brand, your category, customer problems and comparisons with competitors. I pick three competitors to benchmark against.

02

Test the AI tools

I run every question across the platforms in your package, more than once, because answers change between runs. For each one I log whether you are named, how you are described, who else appears and which links are cited.

03

Find where the tools get their information

The sources cited show what the tools lean on: directories, your Google Business Profile, review sites, forums and news. The gaps show where you need to be listed or mentioned.

04

Check technical access

robots.txt rules for AI crawlers (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended), bot blocking at your host or CDN, whether your content shows without JavaScript, Bing indexing and your schema.

05

Review your entity and content

Consistent name, address and phone everywhere, the strength of your Google Business Profile and reviews, clear statements of who you are and where you work, service pages with real specifics, and answer-style content the tools can lift.

06

Report and action plan

A plain-English summary, the full question log so you can see what I saw, and a prioritised list of what to fix first.

Straight talk

What an audit can and can’t tell you.

  • It is a sample, not a ranking. AI answers vary by person, place and time, and between runs of the same question. The audit measures how often you appear across a set of questions, not a fixed position.
  • Nobody can guarantee a mention. The tools decide who they name. Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in its AI features beyond normal SEO best practice, and we know of no published formula from any tool. An audit finds what is in your way and what is worth fixing.
  • I won’t promise when fixes will show. Tools that search the live web can reflect changes sooner than answers drawn from a model’s training data, which can take much longer to change. None of them publish a timeline, so I won’t invent one.
  • Tracking is not the same as fixing. Monthly tracking shows what changed. Hands-on ongoing work is GEO, an add-on to an SEO plan.

Common questions

AI audit FAQs.

Still wondering something? Get in touch and ask.

How much does an AI visibility audit cost?

A Snapshot is NZ$600, a Standard audit is NZ$1,500 and a Comprehensive audit is NZ$3,000. Monthly tracking is NZ$600 a month. NZ prices are plus GST. The currency switcher on this page shows the AUD, USD, GBP and CAD prices, which are charged as shown.

Which package should I choose?

Start with a Snapshot if you want a quick read on where you stand before spending more. Choose Standard if you want the full picture, your competitors benchmarked and a prioritised action plan. Choose Comprehensive if you have several locations or services, or you want a re-test after 90 days. Monthly tracking suits you once you have an audit and want to watch how things change.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT, Gemini or Google will name my business?

No. The tools decide who they name, and answers vary by person, place and time, and between runs of the same question. An audit shows where you stand today, what is getting in the way and what is worth fixing first. It does not promise a mention.

Which AI tools do you test?

A Snapshot covers three platforms. Standard and Comprehensive cover six: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude. Tools change quickly, so I test the ones your customers are most likely to use.

What is the difference between the audit and monthly tracking?

The audit finds out where you stand and what to fix. Monthly tracking re-runs your question set each month and shows how often you are named compared with your competitors, so you can see what has changed. Tracking reports on results. It does not change your site. Hands-on ongoing work is GEO, which is an add-on to an SEO plan.

How long does it take?

A Snapshot takes 1 to 2 days, a Standard audit 3 to 5 working days and a Comprehensive audit 1.5 to 2 weeks, counted from when I have what I need from you. Monthly tracking runs every month.

What do you need from me?

Your website address, the services and areas you want to be found for, and any competitors you want included. If you don’t name competitors, I choose three. Nothing needs to be installed and I don’t need access to your accounts.

Do the prices include GST?

Prices in New Zealand dollars exclude GST, which is added for NZ clients. Prices in AUD, USD, GBP and CAD are charged as shown. I always confirm the exact figure before you commit.
